NTEA: Get a first look at the new Detroit medium duty enginesFreightliner Trucks Severe Duty Newsletter
This may be the Severe Duty Report, but Medium Duty trucks deserve their day in the sun. That’s why Daimler Trucks North America is investing $375 million in new Detroit DD5™ and DD8™ medium duty engines.
At The Work Truck Show next month, we will be sharing sneak peeks and exclusive information about these new Detroit engines designed specifically for medium duty trucks, so make sure you stop by Freightliner’s booth #4661 to learn more.
The Detroit DD5 medium duty engines will be available for the Freightliner M2 product line later this year, and will be available across the Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) product portfolio by 2018. Vehicles with the DD5 and DD8 engines will meet GHG17 standards early, as they were developed with environmental friendliness, economy, and performance in mind. Additionally, these new engine lines will add approximately 160 new jobs to the Detroit headquarters facility.
“Detroit medium duty engines will provide what no other manufacturer in North America can offer — a total vehicle solution that matches Daimler’s global engineering prowess with the most complete lineup bar none in the industry,” said Martin Daum, president and CEO, Daimler Trucks North America. “I am pleased to announce that select Daimler Truck North America vehicles will be available with medium duty power by the end of 2016, and full production will take place in Detroit by the end of 2018.”
The Work Truck Show, March 1–4 in Indianapolis, is the perfect place to unveil these new medium duty engines, as the show is known for bringing together the newest vocational truck and equipment offerings. The Freightliner booth (#4661) will feature a broad range of hard-working trucks, including:
- Three M2 106 units — one with Altec forestry/tree care equipment, one with an aerial platform from Delphi Body Works and another with a Schwarze street sweeper body.
- Two 108SDs — the first is upfitted with a Godwin Muni dump/plow setup, and the second is equipped with all-wheel-drive and a Utility One Source body.
- One 114SD with CNG power and Swaploader roll-off body.
